Colleges Costing $30K or Less For Family With Incomes Over $110K

Colleges Costing $30K or Less For Family With Incomes Over $110K

Colleges With Generous Institutional Aid If you’re the parent of a college-bound high school student, you’re probably on the look out for affordable colleges. Unfortunately, its tougher and tougher for families with middle incomes to afford college without taking out loans. Because the FAFSA calculations for determining your family’s contribution to college is to heavily dependent on your income, families with income over $110,000 may not qualify for need much based aid.

Michelle Kretzschmar (of DIYCollegeRankings) and I put together this list of colleges that families with incomes over $110,000 should be aware of.

In creating this list, we put colleges into two different categories. The first category shows the five private colleges, by region, with the highest average net price for students whose families have incomes of $110,000 or more.

The second table shows, by region, the five private colleges with the highest graduation rate and an average net price of under $30,000 for freshman whose families have incomes of over $110,000.

This information is based on data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). Students are only listed in the family income category if they also received some form of federal aid including student loans or work-study. Therefore, it is possible that families in this income category received gift aid from the college and no federal aid and would not appear in this data.

To learn more about how to research and find colleges generous with need and merit based aid, consider taking our upcoming online course Roadmap to Cutting College Costs.

Starting May 11th, Michelle Kretzschmar of DIYCollegeRankings and I are offering a 3 week course (once a week webinars) that will show you step by step the process how to target schools for financial aid. This includes both need-based and merit-based aid. We’ll explain how understanding the financial aid process and different factors (such as college rankings, location, supply & demand) can affect your financial aid award. We’ll also walk you through our specially designed tool to show you how to do your own personalized college search based on your specific needs and situation.

We think about this as a Moneyball approach to paying for college. If you want to figure out how to pay less for a quality college education, this class is for you.
